Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility is not my favorite of her novels, but its probably my favorite Austen movie adaptation. This is mostly due to Emma Thompson’s wonderful screenplay and Ang Lee’s seamless direction. The story is about two sisters, one Sense, Elinor Dashwood, and the other Sensibility, Marianne Dashwood. Elinor is intelligent, prudent, and reserved. Marianne is outspoken, emotional, and romantic. Their fortunes are dramatically changed after their father dies and they move into a small cottage with their mother and younger sister. Before leaving their old home Elinor meets Edward Farris, her sister-in-law’s brother. Edward is kind, intelligent, and uncomplicated; perfectly matched for Elinor. Despite their growing affection for each other he doesn’t propose marriage and the Dashwoods go to begin their poorer new life. In their new neighborhood another world of people are introduced including Colonel Brandon and Mr. Wiloughby. The Colonel is considerate, respectful, and seriously hot (his voice is like omg). Mr. Wiloughby is dashing, carefree, and handsome. Both men fall in love with Marianne and its immediately obvious who she prefers. I’ll stop there and just say the movie is beautiful, moves really fast, has jaw-dropping twists, and a wonderful cast. This movie is from 1995 and stars Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet.
This is Colonel Brandon…

Arang and the Magistrate starring Lee Jun Ki (MINE) and Shin Min Ah has won my heart. It’s wonderful when a show you’ve been anticipating for months not only doesn’t suck, but is really good! It’s a fantastic combo of fantasy-humor-mystery-saguek. The first episode was interesting and super funny. The second was equally great, plus now I’m attached to the lead couple. However, I have an embarrassing confession…I’m a little irrationally jealous of Shin Min Ah. They have great chemistry and if she dates Lee Jun Ki in real life my heart will break a bit. Yes, I am an adult. I would get over it. It’s not like I was ever going to meet Lee Jun Ki anyway, BUT he is my first MINE. My first bonafide k-actor obsession and I feel possessive. I digress. Episode 2’s best moment was when Eun Oh (Jun Ki) has to measure Arang so she can get new clothes to “meet” her ex-fiance. The scene was so unexpected, natural, and romantic. This ache rose in my chest and I could foresee crying in my future. Alive guy+dead girl+love=ANGST. Whatever! Arang and the Magistrate has gotten off to a great start 😀
How could I not love him???

I love stories so it’s a given that I love books, movies, and television shows. Each week I want to feature a movie that really matters to me. These movies have shaped my memories and my thoughts, made me think, hope, laugh, and cry. I’ll try to explain why and maybe you’ll be inspired to watch or even re-watch them. First up is 12 Angry Men starring Henry Fonda. Continue reading

Recently, I seem to love places no one I know has been to. Now it’s Bali. It’s a beautiful island of Indonesia, where according to Anthony Bourdain, you can eat pork because of its mostly Hindu population. Me like pork. Anyways, I’ve been researching activities and hotels. Yeah, I know…I need to study. Here’s a few more pictures.
Yes, that’s pig skin. Lovely, crispy, pig skin.
